Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT-A) is in the
final phase of establishing a state-of-the-art Assistive Technology Centre of
Excellence (AT-CoE), an initiative formally approved by the Government and supported
by key national innovation agencies.
The AT-CoE will function as a dedicated multidisciplinary ecosystem focused
on transforming the landscape of assistive and rehabilitative technologies in India by
fostering innovation, accessibility, and inclusive design.
Vision & Purpose
The Assistive Technology Centre of Excellence aims to empower individuals with disabilities,
elderly citizens, and persons requiring rehabilitation by enabling access to
innovative, affordable, and user-centric technological solutions.
The centre’s mission is to strengthen India’s assistive technology ecosystem through
cutting-edge research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and capacity building,
aligned with national inclusion and accessibility goals.
Core Pillars of the AT-CoE

Research & Innovation Hub – AI-driven, sensor-based and IoT-enabled assistive
solutions, human-computer interaction systems, mobility aids, and communication tools,
developed in collaboration with clinicians, therapists, and user communities.

Product Development & Fabrication Lab – Rapid prototyping, testing, design
refinement, usability assessment, ergonomic evaluation, and validation of assistive
technology products.

Incubation & Startup Support – Dedicated support for Assistive Technology
startups through IIF-IIITA, including access to funding schemes, industry
mentors, clinical partners, and commercialization pathways.

Training, Outreach & Social Impact Programs – Skill development programs
for innovators, therapists, students; awareness campaigns; and partnerships with NGOs,
hospitals, accessibility groups, and government missions.
